Joao Bispo de Souza Neto, known as Mestre Lampréia, is the founder of Motumbaxé Capoeira. Born in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil, he began learning Capoeira with Mestre Sabiá in 1989. Since 1995 he has taught in South America, Africa, Europe and the US.
In 2002 Mestre Lampréia moved to New York City and is active in sharing the art of capoeira through workshops, batizados (rank changing), jogos (competitions), and international cultural exchanges. He extends the teachings, philosophy, and beauty of the art through his instructors.
Lampréia specializes in work with children. On top of children’s classes in his academy, he has taught capoeira to children in numerous NYC Public Schools for over 10 years, via his nonprofit: Allied Capoeira Arts Initiave (A.C.A.I.)
